GREATER LOWELL WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD


Mission/Responsibilities

 

The Greater Lowell Workforce Investment Board is a private non-profit organization providing policy guidance for workforce development issues in the Northern Middlesex Service Delivery area.  This area consists of the City of Lowell and the towns of Chelmsford, Billerica, Dracut, Dunstable, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro and Westford. The Board will work in concert with any business or organization regarding workforce development issues. The Board established to meet the requirements of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (Public Law 105-220) provides a myriad of services including but not limited to the following:

·        Evaluation of the local One-Stop Career Center system, youth activities and other employment and training activities as described under WIA in partnership with the Chief Elected Official (Lowell City Manager) including determination of resource allocations, priorities for service and eligibility for Individual Training Account vendors.

·       Development and/or modification with the WIA partners, the Five Year WIA plan for the region. Negotiation of performance standards with the State and other local performance indicators as appropriate
