Literacy Improvement Program

The Literacy Improvement Program assists TAFDC recipient’s who are interested in attending an Education/Skills Training Program (i.e., Certified Nurse Assistant Training, Customer Service Specialist Training, Office Specialist Training) but who lack basic education skills, a high school diploma or English proficiency.

The Literacy Improvement Program provides basic education skills, GED preparation and Workplace ESOL instruction focused on developing the skills, knowledge, and competency levels needed to successfully complete an Education/Skills Training program. The Literacy program will improve the participants reading, writing, and math skills and will enable some participants (depending upon academic assessment levels) to earn a GED certificate; improve their employment status; and continue their education through vocational training.

Support Services:

Upon placement into employment, participants are eligible to receive Post-Employment Services to include Clothing Allowances and Gas Allowances issued in the form of financial payments to enhance the participant’s job retention and self-sufficiency.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Literacy Improvement Program, you must currently be receiving TAFDC benefits from the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA).

For information on the Literacy Improvement Program please e-mail Maureen Davidson, Program Director or call at (978) 805-4805.
